Waspaloy Pan Head Screws – Design & Configurations

Pan Head Design

Waspaloy pan head screws feature a rounded top with a flat bearing surface, offering a balanced profile for visibility and strength. This versatile head style is ideal for small diameter fasteners where the fastener size needed is too small for a wrench, and when slotted or Phillips drivers are desired. The large diameter head provides more clamping area for secure fastening in high-temperature assemblies. Head dimensions conform to ASME B18.6.3 (inch) and ISO 1580 / ISO 7045 (metric). Available in diameters from M1.6 to M24 (#0 to 1").

Drive Types

Waspaloy pan head screws are manufactured with precision-formed drives: slotted for traditional applications and low torque requirements, Phillips (crosshead) for automated assembly and cam-out resistance, and internal hex for high-torque installations. Recessed drives provide clean appearance and reduced snagging in confined spaces. Custom drives (Torx, Robertson) available upon request. Vented versions available for UHV applications.

Thread Specifications

Waspaloy pan head screws available with Unified Coarse (UNC), Unified Fine (UNF), UNJF-3A (aerospace), and metric coarse threads. Thread classes 2A, 3A, 6g. Precision rolled threads for superior fatigue life. Full or partial thread options available. Standard metric pitches: M1.6 (0.35mm) to M24 (3.0mm). Custom thread lengths and configurations available upon request.

Aerospace & Military Standards

Our Waspaloy pan head screws meet applicable sections of NASM 20426 (machine screws), NAS1802, and MS16995 for geometry. Full compliance with AMS 5704, AMS 5708, AMS 5709, AMS 5544, and ASTM B637 for material and mechanical properties. Silver plating per AMS 2410 available for anti-galling. NADCAP accredited heat treatment processes ensure optimal gamma prime (γ') precipitation.

Heat Treatment Condition

Waspaloy pan head screws are supplied in fully heat-treated condition per AMS 5704/5705 schedules. Typical heat treatment includes solution treatment at 1066-1093°C (1950-2000°F) followed by rapid cooling, then three-step aging: 996°C (1825°F)/2 hrs/AC, 843°C (1550°F)/4 hrs/AC, and 760°C (1400°F)/16 hrs/AC. This optimizes γ' precipitation for maximum high-temperature strength.

Custom & Non-Standard Pan Head Screws

Need special head diameters, extra-long lengths, proprietary drives, ventilation holes, or unique thread forms? RAYCHIN engineers design and produce custom Waspaloy pan head screws to your exact specifications – any condition (solution treated, stabilized, precipitation hardened), with full material traceability. Prototype to production volumes supported. Cleanroom wash and packaging available for sensitive applications.

Metallurgical note: Waspaloy is a precipitation-hardening nickel-based superalloy strengthened through the formation of gamma prime (γ') phase Ni₃(Al, Ti) in a disordered FCC matrix (γ). The alloy is produced by vacuum induction melting (VIM) and vacuum arc remelting (VAR) or electroslag remelting (ESR) to ensure high purity and consistent properties. High-temperature strength is obtained from solid solution strengthening elements (molybdenum, cobalt, chromium) and aging elements (aluminum, titanium). The alloy maintains excellent strength and stability at temperatures exceeding those of Alloy 718, making it the preferred choice for critical rotating applications up to 650°C (1200°F).
