Nickel 200 hex nuts are the most common type for general bolting, designed to match the strength of nickel 200 bolts and prevent thread stripping in corrosive service conditions. Available in finished hex (ASME B18.2.2, ISO 4032, DIN 934) and heavy hex series (ASME B18.2.2, ISO 4033) for increased bearing area. Precision tapped with class 2B/6H threads from M3 to M56 (1/4" to 2"). Lock Nuts (All-Metal & Nylon Insert)

Metallurgical note: Nickel 200 is a commercially pure, solid-solution wrought nickel alloy. It has a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure that remains stable from cryogenic temperatures up to its melting point, providing excellent ductility and fabricability . The alloy exhibits ferromagnetic properties with a Curie temperature of approximately 360°C (680°F) . Nickel 200 is suitable for continuous service up to 315°C (600°F); for applications above this temperature, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) is recommended to avoid graphitization and embrittlement .

Nickel 200 retains useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 315°C (600°F) and is suitable for continuous service in this range . The alloy maintains excellent ductility from cryogenic temperatures (-269°C) up to its maximum service temperature, with no ductile-to-brittle transition . At elevated temperatures, Nickel 200 exhibits good oxidation resistance and retains approximately 50% of its room temperature strength at 315°C . Tensile strength at 300°C is approximately 475 MPa (69 ksi), with yield strength of 120 MPa (17 ksi) and elongation of 48% . For applications above 315°C, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) is recommended to prevent graphitization and embrittlement .

Nickel 200 offers outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making it suitable for the most demanding applications in chemical processing, marine, and power generation industries .

  • Caustic Alkalis: Outstanding resistance to sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and potassium hydroxide in all concentrations up to and including molten state . Nickel 200 is the preferred material for caustic evaporators and handling equipment .
  • Seawater Corrosion: Excellent resistance to ordinary seawater corrosion, making it ideal for onshore and offshore marine applications, including desalination systems and marine fittings .
  • Neutral and Alkaline Salts: Highly resistant to most neutral and alkaline salt solutions, including chlorides, sulfates, and nitrates .
  • Acid Resistance: Good resistance to de-aerated mineral acids. Most useful under reducing conditions . Resists hydrofluoric acid and organic acids in the absence of oxidizing agents . Corrosion resistance is better in de-aerated acid .
  • High Temperature Water: Excellent corrosion resistance in high-temperature water and steam environments up to 315°C .
  • Dry Gases: Resistant to all dry gases at room temperature. In dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride may be used at temperatures up to 550°C . Resistant to dry fluorine .
  • Food and Organic Materials: Non-reactive with organic compounds, making it ideal for food processing and pharmaceutical equipment where product purity must be maintained .
  • Limitations: Not suitable for oxidizing salt solutions, nitric acid, or oxidizing acid environments where rapid attack may occur . Does not perform well in chloride solutions, even in small concentrations, or in sulfuric acid under oxidizing conditions .
  • Atmospheric Corrosion: Corrosion rate outdoors is low, though sulphurous atmospheres are the most corrosive . Marine atmospheres are little more corrosive than suburban or rural atmospheres .
  • Bimetallic Corrosion: Can be safely connected to stainless steels, titanium alloys, and copper alloys with appropriate precautions. Avoid direct contact with aluminum, zinc, and carbon steel without proper insulation .
