Prototype to production volumes supported. Cleanroom wash and packaging available for semiconductor, medical, and FPD production applications.
Monel screws are extensively used in marine environments due to their outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion, with corrosion rates below 0.025 mm/year. Applications include hull fasteners, superstructure bolts, deck hardware, propeller shafts, underwater instrumentation, and rigging components on boats, ships, and submarines. Unlike stainless steel, Monel maintains structural integrity even in submerged or splash-zone conditions and resists biofouling. Renowned for saltwater corrosion resistance, Monel is the go-to material for navy and offshore applications.
Monel screws in chemical processing plants resist aggressive substances such as hydrofluoric acid (HF) in all concentrations up to boiling point – Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation unit piping and equipment. Also excellent for sulfuric acid concentrations above 80%, deaerated hydrochloric acid (low concentrations), caustic solutions, and reducing atmospheres. Used in the assembly of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, piping systems, and valves. By preventing chemical erosion and galvanic reactions, Monel ensures system integrity, reduces maintenance frequency, and enhances operational safety in corrosive processing environments.
Monel screws qualified per NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-3 for offshore drilling rigs, subsea production systems, wellhead equipment, and downhole tools. These environments combine high pressure, elevated temperatures, and exposure to corrosive elements like hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), chlorides, and seawater. Monel K-500, with precipitation hardening, provides yield strengths above 690 MPa (100 ksi) for high-strength downhole fasteners, valve stems, and wellhead components while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Used for pump shafts, impellers, and subsea connectors requiring both strength and seawater resistance.
Monel screws are used in both aircraft and spacecraft components that must perform in extreme environments – ranging from high-temperature engine zones to the vacuum of outer space. Found in fuel systems, hydraulic lines, structural frames, exhaust manifolds, and landing gear assemblies. Monel retains its strength across a broad temperature range from cryogenic (-423°F) up to 1000°F, resists oxidation, and performs reliably under thermal cycling. Non-magnetic properties essential for sensitive instrumentation and electronic housings.
Monel screws in nuclear reactor flanges, steam turbine controls, and power plant seawater cooling systems provide reliable fastening in corrosive and high-temperature environments. Excellent resistance to high-temperature steam, with corrosion rates less than 0.026 mm/year at elevated temperatures. Maintains mechanical properties up to 540°C (1000°F) in oxidizing and reducing conditions. Used for turbine control linkages, sensor mounts, and heat exchanger bolting where corrosion resistance and precision fit are critical. Suitable for geothermal and offshore wind components.
Monel screws in seawater intake systems, desalination plants, and offshore platform structural connections resist pitting and crevice corrosion in high-velocity seawater. Used for flange connections on large-bore piping, pump foundations, membrane support structures, and valve actuators where long-term reliability in aggressive water environments is essential. Virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking and biofouling, making them ideal for reverse osmosis and thermal desalination processes.
RAYCHIN LIMITED manufactures Monel screws from vacuum induction melted (VIM) material conforming to the most widely used national and international specifications. All material is traceable to the mill.
Our Monel screws are produced from vacuum induction melted (VIM) material conforming to the following limits per ASTM, AMS, and industry standards.
Metallurgical note: Monel 400 is a solid-solution nickel-copper alloy that is hardened only through cold working. It remains ductile even at subzero temperatures and does not require heat treatment for moderate strength properties. Monel K-500 adds aluminum and titanium to enable precipitation hardening (aging), achieving yield strengths above 690 MPa (100 ksi) while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Both alloys are essentially non-magnetic (K-500 is non-magnetic; Monel 400 is slightly magnetic at room temperature but loses magnetism at elevated temperatures). The high nickel content provides exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking, while copper enhances resistance to reducing environments such as hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids. Monel screws are manufactured with precision-formed heads and rolled threads for superior fatigue life and consistent performance in demanding applications.
Monel screws are supplied in various conditions per ASTM and AMS specifications. Data represent typical values based on industry standards. ksi values (kilopound per square inch) are provided alongside MPa.
Monel alloys retain useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F) and can operate in moderately elevated environments. The alloys maintain excellent ductility and toughness from cryogenic temperatures down to -184°C (-300°F) continuously, with good oxidation resistance up to 540°C. Monel K-500 is typically limited to 480°C (900°F) to prevent over-aging of the precipitation-hardened structure. In high-temperature steam, corrosion rates are less than 0.026 mm/year. Monel 400 exhibits a "hot brittleness" phenomenon in the 600-800°C range, but this does not affect normal service temperatures below 540°C.
Note: Monel excels in applications requiring maximum corrosion resistance at moderate to high temperatures, particularly in reducing environments where stainless steels may fail. Above 480°C, Monel K-500 may experience over-aging and loss of strength.
Monel alloys offer outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making them suitable for the most demanding applications including marine, chemical processing, oil & gas, and power generation.
All Monel screws are manufactured and tested to meet the following standards:
We offer surface finishes: passivation (ASTM A967), silver plating (AMS 2410 for anti‑seize), PTFE coating, electropolish, zinc nickel coating, and Xylan coated options.
