RAYCHIN LIMITED is a leading manufacturer of MP35N Set Screws – precision headless fasteners engineered from cobalt-nickel-chromium-molybdenum multiphase superalloy, delivering the ultimate combination of ultra-high strength, exceptional corrosion resistance, and reliable performance in the most demanding applications. Set screws (also known as grub screws) are fully threaded fasteners with no protruding head, designed to secure rotating components such as gears, pulleys, and shafts against relative motion. Available with various point styles including cup point, cone point, flat point, dog point, and oval point, they are driven through a threaded hole using an internal hex socket or slotted drive. Through precise cold working and age hardening, MP35N achieves ultimate tensile strength up to 300 ksi (2070 MPa) while maintaining excellent ductility and toughness. Our portfolio includes all standard and custom configurations manufactured to NAS, AN, MS, ANSI, ASTM, ASME, SAE, API, NACE, ISO, DIN and KS standards. Whether you require MP35N set screws for aerospace critical joints, downhole drilling tools, or medical devices, RAYCHIN delivers precision, quality, and full traceability. All mechanical properties are presented in MPa and ksi (kilopound per square inch).
MP35N cup point set screws feature a cup-shaped indentation on one end, providing the strongest holding power as the cup edge bites into the mating surface. This is the most common style for quick, semi-permanent or permanent applications where it is acceptable to cut the cup point edge of the screw into the shaft. Ideal for general industrial use, aerospace, and downhole tools requiring maximum locking force.
MP35N cone point set screws feature a sharp cone-shaped point that delivers the strongest clamping force due to deep penetration into the mating material. Used for permanent assembly where the point can seat into a corresponding dimple or recess. Ideal for precision positioning and applications requiring high resistance to loosening under extreme vibration.
MP35N flat point set screws feature a flat bottom surface, providing minimal shaft deformation and allowing frequent adjustment without damage. The cheapest and simplest point style, used when you need the ability to frequently change parts or when the shaft material is too hard to allow point penetration. Suitable for adjustment applications in medical and precision instruments.
MP35N dog point set screws feature a cylindrical extension (dog) that fits into a matching hole in the shaft, providing positive axial location and high resistance to vibration. Oval point provides a rounded contact surface for seating against curved shafts. Custom point geometries available upon request.
Available with internal hex socket (Allen) drive (most common) or slotted drive. Thread sizes from #0 to 1½" (M1.6 to M36) with UNC, UNF, and metric coarse threads. Thread classes 2A, 3A, 6g. Full thread standard. Lengths from 1/16" to 4" (1.5mm to 100mm). Precision rolled threads for superior fatigue life.
Our MP35N set screws meet applicable sections of NAS, MS, and AN standards for set screw dimensions and point styles. Full compliance with AMS 5844 (solution treated and work strengthened), AMS 5845 (full condition - cold worked and aged), and AMS 5758 (solution treated) for material and heat treatment. NACE MR0175 compliant for sour service.
MP35N set screws are extensively used in jet engine components, landing gear assemblies, flight control systems, missile structures, and space vehicles for securing bearings, gears, and shafts. Withstand operating temperatures up to 800°F (427°C) with exceptional corrosion resistance and fatigue strength. Cup and cone points provide positive locking under extreme vibration and G-forces. Non-magnetic properties essential for sensitive instrumentation.
MP35N set screws qualified per NACE MR0175 for downhole drilling tools, Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) equipment, wellhead components, subsea actuators, and completion equipment. Resist sulfide stress cracking (SSC) and pitting in H₂S/CO₂ environments at elevated pressures and temperatures. Highly resistant to hydrogen embrittlement when properly heat treated. Non-magnetic properties essential for directional drilling instrumentation.
MP35N set screws used in surgical instruments, orthopedic trauma implants, spinal fixation systems, and prosthetic devices. Full biocompatibility per ASTM F562 and ISO 5832-6, excellent fatigue resistance for long-term cyclic loading, and non-magnetic properties for MRI compatibility. Flat and dog points allow secure adjustment without damaging critical components.
MP35N set screws in seawater pump couplings, propeller shaft securing, subsea connector assemblies, ROV systems, and offshore platform components resist pitting and crevice corrosion in saltwater. In seawater, MP35N is virtually immune to crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and pitting even at the highest strength levels.
MP35N set screws in gas turbines, steam turbines, and nuclear power systems provide reliable securing of balance weights, labyrinth seals, and sensor mounts. Maintain locking force after thousands of thermal cycles from cryogenic to 800°F without relaxation. Can operate at cryogenic temperatures without embrittlement.
MP35N set screws resist most mineral acids (nitric, hydrochloric, sulfuric), hydrogen sulfide, and aggressive chemical environments. Excellent resistance to sulfidation and high-temperature oxidation. Used in reactor agitators, pump shafts, and valve assemblies requiring maximum corrosion resistance and strength.
RAYCHIN LIMITED manufactures MP35N set screws from vacuum induction melted (VIM) and vacuum arc remelted (VAR) material conforming to the most widely used national and international specifications. All material is traceable to the mill.
Our MP35N set screws are produced from vacuum induction melted (VIM) and vacuum arc remelted (VAR) material conforming to the following limits per AMS, ASTM, and industry standards.
Metallurgical note: MP35N is a multiphase cobalt-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy strengthened through a unique combination of solid solution strengthening, cold work hardening (typically 40-60% reduction), and age hardening via precipitation of Co₃Mo phase. The alloy maintains excellent ductility even at high cold reduction levels, enabling production of high-strength set screws with precise point geometries. It remains essentially non-magnetic (permeability <1.005 μ) even after extensive cold working, critical for medical and directional drilling applications. High-temperature (1350-1500°F) heat treatments improve hydrogen embrittlement resistance while maintaining high strength.
MP35N set screws are supplied in various conditions per AMS and ASTM specifications. Data represent typical values based on AMS, ASTM, and industry standards. ksi values (kilopound per square inch) are provided alongside MPa.
MP35N alloy retains useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 800°F (427°C) and can operate in moderately elevated temperatures of 800°F. The alloy can operate at cryogenic temperatures without embrittlement.
Note: For applications above 800°F (427°C), consider nickel-based superalloys like Inconel 718 or MP159. MP35N excels in applications requiring maximum strength at moderate temperatures with exceptional corrosion resistance.
MP35N alloy offers outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making it suitable for the most demanding applications including medical implants, downhole tools, marine equipment, and chemical processing.
All MP35N set screws are manufactured and tested to meet the following standards:
We offer surface finishes: passivation (ASTM A967), silver plating (AMS 2410 for anti‑seize), PTFE coating, electropolish. Full traceability and destructive/non‑destructive testing available (UT, MPI, PMI). ISO 13485 certified for medical applications with cleanroom packaging available.
