MP35N Lock Nuts – Complete Range of Types & Configurations

All-Metal Prevailing Torque Lock Nuts

MP35N all-metal lock nuts achieve locking through controlled thread distortion (elliptical, slotted, or top-lock designs). Suitable for high-temperature service up to 600°F (315°C). Available in hex, heavy hex, and thin patterns. Conform to MS21042, MS21043, MS21045, MS21046, NAS3350, and DIN 980/985. NACE MR0175 compliant for sour service.

Polymer Insert Lock Nuts (Nylon Insert)

MP35N polymer insert lock nuts feature a non-metallic locking element (typically nylon) that provides prevailing torque by deforming threads. Reusable, ideal for vibration-resistant applications. Temperature rating limited to 250°F (120°C). Conform to DIN 985, ISO 7040, and MS21042. Cleanroom packaging available for medical applications.

12-Point Lock Nuts

MP35N 12-point lock nuts feature a double hexagon (12-point) head design for higher torque transmission and reduced risk of stripping. Available in all-metal prevailing torque configurations. Ideal for aerospace and defense applications where high strength and reliability are critical. Conform to IFI115, NAS, and MS standards.

Slotted Nuts & Castle Nuts

MP35N slotted hex nuts and castle nuts feature slots that align with a drilled hole in the bolt for cotter pin insertion. Positive mechanical locking for critical assemblies such as landing gear and control linkages. Conform to AN310, AN320, MS17825, MS17826, and DIN 935.

Floating Barrel Self-Locking Nuts

Critical Applications of MP35N Lock Nuts

Aerospace & Defense

MP35N lock nuts are extensively used in jet engine components, landing gear assemblies, flight control systems, missile and rocket structures, and airframe connections. Withstand operating temperatures up to 600°F (315°C) with exceptional vibration resistance. Self-locking feature prevents loosening under high-G maneuvers. All-metal designs suitable for engine hot zones. Floating barrel nuts compensate for hole misalignment in composite structures.

Oil & Gas / Downhole Tools

MP35N lock nuts qualified per NACE MR0175 for downhole drilling tools, Measurement-While-Drilling (MWD) equipment, wellhead components, subsea actuators, and completion equipment. Resist sulfide stress cracking (SSC) and pitting in H₂S/CO₂ environments at elevated pressures and temperatures. Non-magnetic properties essential for directional drilling instrumentation.

Medical & Surgical Implants

MP35N lock nuts used in orthopedic trauma implants, spinal fixation systems, surgical instruments, and prosthetic devices. Full biocompatibility per ASTM F562 and ISO 5832-6, excellent fatigue resistance for long-term cyclic loading, and non-magnetic properties for MRI compatibility. Polymer insert versions available for single-use surgical instruments.

Marine & Subsea

MP35N lock nuts in seawater pump couplings, subsea connector assemblies, ROV systems, and offshore platform splash zone components resist pitting and crevice corrosion in saltwater. Virtually immune to seawater stress corrosion cracking and pitting even at the highest strength levels. Prevailing torque designs maintain locking integrity under constant wave-induced vibration.

Power Generation

MP35N lock nuts in gas turbines, steam turbines, and nuclear power systems provide reliable fastening of casings, flanges, and support structures. Maintain clamping force after thousands of thermal cycles from cryogenic to 600°F without relaxation. Self-locking feature prevents loosening under thermal expansion/contraction cycles.

High-Performance Automotive & Motorsport

MP35N lock nuts used in racing engines, transmission systems, suspension components, and brake calipers where maximum strength and vibration resistance are critical. All-metal lock nuts withstand high operating temperatures while maintaining prevailing torque. Ultra-high strength allows for weight reduction in competition vehicles.

Metallurgical note: MP35N is a multiphase cobalt-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy strengthened through a unique combination of solid solution strengthening, cold work hardening, and age hardening via precipitation of Co₃Mo phase. The alloy maintains excellent ductility even at 50-70% cold reduction, enabling production of high-strength lock nuts with complex geometries and reliable locking elements. It remains essentially non-magnetic (permeability <1.005 μ) even after extensive cold working, critical for medical and directional drilling applications.
