Titanium set screws feature precision hexagon socket drives per ASME B18.3 (inch series) and ISO 4026-4029 / DIN 913-916 (metric series). The internal hex drive allows for high tightening torques and secure installation in confined spaces where external wrenching is impractical. Available in diameters from M1.6 to M24 (#0 to 1"). Drive sockets are precision broached to ensure proper tool engagement and torque transmission.
Titanium set screws available with multiple point styles to suit different application requirements: cup point (ISO 4029 / DIN 916) for permanent locking – the most common style providing strong grip and reusability ; cone point (ISO 4027 / DIN 914) for permanent positioning with maximum holding power ; flat point (ISO 4026 / DIN 913) for frequent adjustment and non-marring contact ; and dog point (ISO 4028 / DIN 915) for location in detents and precise repositioning . Special points can be customized .

Used in rotating shafts, gear retention, and adjustment mechanisms where reliable locking is required.
Titanium set screws in marine propulsion systems, offshore platform equipment, underwater instrumentation, and subsea components . Titanium offers exceptional corrosion resistance in seawater environments, with corrosion rates less than 0.01 mm/year in salt spray testing – significantly outperforming stainless steel . Grade 2 titanium is ideal for seawater-exposed components, while Grade 7 provides enhanced resistance in crevice conditions . Used in pumps, valves, couplings, desalination units, and deep-sea equipment up to 260°C and >1 mile depth .
Titanium set screws are qualified for medical implant applications due to titanium's exceptional biocompatibility, corrosion resistance in body fluids, and non-toxic nature . Grade 23 ELI (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) screws meet ASTM F136 requirements for surgical implants, including orthopedic fixation systems, spinal implants, and dental prosthetics . The non-magnetic properties are essential for MRI compatibility and medical imaging equipment . Special break-off set screws are used in spinal fixation systems to ensure consistent locking torque .
Titanium set screws in chemical processing equipment including reactor vessels, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and piping systems handling corrosive media . Grade 2 offers excellent resistance to nitric acid, acetic acid, and chlorides, while Grade 7 (Ti-Pd) provides enhanced resistance in reducing acid environments and crevice conditions . Metallurgical note: Titanium alloys are lightweight metals with density approximately 4.43-4.51 g/cm³ – about 45% lighter than steel while offering comparable or superior strength . Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is an alpha-beta alloy strengthened through a combination of aluminum (alpha stabilizer) and vanadium (beta stabilizer), providing excellent strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance . Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium with exceptional corrosion resistance and formability, ideal for marine and chemical applications . Grade 7 contains palladium additions (0.12-0.25%) that significantly enhance corrosion resistance in reducing acids and crevice conditions . All titanium alloys exhibit exceptional corrosion resistance due to the formation of a stable, self-healing oxide layer (TiO₂) that provides protection in seawater, acids, and oxidizing environments . Titanium is completely non-magnetic and exhibits minimal gas discharge, making it ideal for semiconductor and medical imaging applications . When installing titanium set screws, use anti-seize compound to prevent galling – a common issue with titanium due to its tendency to cold-weld under high pressure .
Titanium set screws are supplied in annealed condition per applicable ASTM specifications. Data represent typical values based on industry standards .
Note: For long-term service, titanium alloys are typically limited to 300-400°C due to oxidation and microstructural stability . At 900°C, protective coatings such as TiAlN are required to prevent rapid oxidation and alpha-case formation .
Titanium alloys are renowned for their outstanding corrosion resistance, often outperforming stainless steel in aggressive environments . The material forms a stable, adherent, and self-healing oxide layer (TiO₂) that provides protection against a wide range of corrosive media . In salt spray testing (10% NaCl), titanium exhibits corrosion rates less than 0.01 mm/year, compared to 0.1 mm/year for 304 stainless steel . Titanium is virtually immune to seawater corrosion, making it ideal for marine and offshore applications .
Note: At higher temperatures (>80°C) and in crevice conditions with chlorides, Grade 7 titanium with palladium addition is recommended to prevent crevice corrosion .
