Titanium Threaded Rods – Comprehensive Product Range

Continuous Thread Design

Titanium threaded rods feature continuous precision rolled threads along the entire length, allowing for cut-to-length customization and maximum flexibility in high-temperature and corrosive environments. Available in standard lengths of 1m, 2m, 3m, and custom lengths up to 6m (20 ft). Diameters from M3 to M48 (#4 to 2") with metric coarse (M), metric fine, UNC, and UNF thread options. The continuous thread design ensures uniform strength and thread engagement throughout the rod.

Grade 5 Titanium Threaded Rods (Ti-6Al-4V)

Grade 5 titanium threaded rods are produced from Ti-6Al-4V alloy (UNS R56400), the most widely used titanium alloy offering the highest strength-to-weight ratio. With tensile strength ≥ 895 MPa (130 ksi) and density of 4.43 g/cm³, these rods are approximately 45% lighter than steel equivalents while providing superior strength. Meets ASTM F468, ASTM B348, and AMS 4928 standards. Ideal for aerospace, motorsports, and high-performance applications requiring maximum strength with minimum weight. Excellent fatigue resistance and high-temperature capability up to 400°C.

Grade 2 Titanium Threaded Rods (CP-Ti)

Grade 2 titanium threaded rods are produced from commercially pure titanium (UNS R50400), offering excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, chemical, and industrial environments. With tensile strength ≥ 345 MPa (50 ksi) and exceptional ductility, these rods are ideal for marine equipment, chemical processing, and general industrial applications where corrosion resistance is paramount. Meets ASTM F468 and ASTM B348 standards. Excellent weldability and formability. Superior corrosion resistance in seawater and chloride environments.

Specialty Grades – Grade 7 & Grade 12

Grade 7 titanium threaded rods (Ti-0.15Pd, UNS R52400) offer enhanced corrosion resistance in reducing acids and are ideal for chemical processing equipment. Grade 12 titanium threaded rods (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni, UNS R53400) provide excellent high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance for industrial applications up to 350°C. Both grades conform to ASTM F468 and ASTM B348 standards. Available on special order for demanding chemical and high-temperature environments.

Medical Grade – Grade 23 ELI

Grade 23 ELI (Extra Low Interstitial) titanium threaded rods are produced from Ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy (UNS R56401), offering the same strength as Grade 5 with enhanced ductility and fracture toughness. Specially processed for medical implant applications, these rods meet ASTM F136 standards for surgical implants. Biocompatible, non-toxic, and radio-opaque, making them ideal for orthopedic implants, surgical instruments, and medical devices. Available with cleanroom packaging and full traceability.

Metallurgical note: Titanium alloys are lightweight metals with density approximately 4.43-4.51 g/cm³ – about 45% lighter than steel while offering comparable or superior strength. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is an alpha-beta alloy strengthened through a combination of aluminum (alpha stabilizer) and vanadium (beta stabilizer), providing excellent strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance. Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium with exceptional corrosion resistance and formability, ideal for marine and chemical applications. Grade 7 contains palladium additions (0.12-0.25%) that significantly enhance corrosion resistance in reducing acids and crevice conditions. All titanium alloys exhibit exceptional corrosion resistance due to the formation of a stable, self-healing oxide layer (TiO₂) that provides protection in seawater, acids, and oxidizing environments. Titanium is completely non-magnetic and exhibits minimal gas discharge, making it ideal for semiconductor and medical imaging applications.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance of Titanium Threaded Rods

Titanium alloys are renowned for their outstanding corrosion resistance, often outperforming stainless steel in aggressive environments. The material forms a stable, adherent, and self-healing oxide layer (TiO₂) that provides protection against a wide range of corrosive media. In salt spray testing (10% NaCl, 35°C), titanium exhibits corrosion rates less than 0.01 mm/year, compared to 0.1 mm/year for 304 stainless steel. Titanium is virtually immune to seawater corrosion up to 260°C (500°F) and can survive at ocean depths over a mile below the surface.

  • Seawater Resistance: Titanium is virtually immune to seawater corrosion up to 260°C (500°F) and at depths exceeding one mile, making it ideal for marine and offshore applications.
  • Chlorine & Bleach Processing: Titanium is fully resistant to wet chlorine, chlorides, hypochlorites, chlorates, perchlorates, and chlorine dioxide – unique among metals. Widely used in pulp & paper and chlor-alkali industries.
  • Pitting & Crevice Corrosion: Titanium is virtually immune to pitting corrosion in chloride environments, but at temperatures >80°C in crevice conditions, palladium-stabilized grades (Grade 7) are recommended.
  • Stress Corrosion Cracking: Titanium alloys exhibit excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking in most environments.
  • Biocompatibility: Titanium is fully biocompatible, non-toxic, and does not elicit adverse tissue reactions, making it ideal for medical implants and surgical instruments.
  • Galvanic Corrosion: Titanium is more noble than aluminum and steel but may experience galvanic corrosion when coupled with dissimilar metals. Appropriate isolation or coating may be required.
