Hex Head Cap Screws

Nickel 200 hex head cap screws are precision fasteners designed for general-purpose bolting where high clamping forces are required. A hex drive permits a greater torque load to be applied to the joint over most other drive types. Manufactured to ASME B18.2.1 (inch series), ISO 4014 / DIN 931 (partially threaded), and ISO 4017 / DIN 933 (fully threaded). Available in diameters from M3 to M48 (#0 to 2"). Precision forged heads and rolled threads for maximum strength. Ideal for chemical reactor flanges, marine assemblies, and high-purity processing equipment.

Heavy Hex Bolts

Nickel 200 heavy hex bolts feature a larger head width across flats compared to finished hex bolts, providing increased bearing area and load distribution for heavy-duty flange connections and industrial equipment. Manufactured to ASME B18.2.1 (inch) and DIN 931 (metric) standards. Used extensively in high-pressure piping systems, pressure vessels, and offshore platform connections where maximum clamping force and corrosion resistance are required.

Metallurgical note: Nickel 200 is a commercially pure, solid-solution wrought nickel alloy. It has a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure that remains stable from cryogenic temperatures up to its melting point, providing excellent ductility and fabricability. The alloy exhibits ferromagnetic properties with a Curie temperature of approximately 360°C (680°F). Nickel 200 is suitable for continuous service up to 315°C (600°F); for applications above this temperature, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) should be used in place of alloy 200 to avoid graphitization and embrittlement.

High‑Temperature Performance of Nickel 200 Bolts

Nickel 200 retains useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 315°C (600°F) and is suitable for continuous service in this range. The alloy maintains excellent ductility from cryogenic temperatures (-269°C) up to its maximum service temperature, with no ductile-to-brittle transition. At elevated temperatures, Nickel 200 exhibits good oxidation resistance and retains approximately 50% of its room temperature strength at 315°C. For applications above 315°C, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) is recommended to prevent graphitization and embrittlement. The alloy can also be used with dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride at temperatures up to 550°C.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance of Nickel 200 Bolts

Nickel 200 offers outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making it suitable for the most demanding applications in chemical processing, marine, and power generation industries.

  • Caustic Alkalis: Outstanding resistance to sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and potassium hydroxide in all concentrations up to and including molten state. Nickel 200 is the preferred material for caustic evaporators and handling equipment.
  • Seawater Corrosion: Excellent resistance to ordinary seawater corrosion, making it ideal for onshore and offshore marine applications, including desalination systems and marine fittings.
  • Neutral and Alkaline Salts: Highly resistant to most neutral and alkaline salt solutions, including chlorides, sulfates, and nitrates.
  • Acid Resistance: Good resistance to de-aerated mineral acids. Most useful under reducing conditions. Corrosion resistance is better in de-aerated acid. Resists hydrofluoric acid and organic acids in the absence of oxidizing agents.
  • Dry Gases: Resistant to all dry gases at room temperature. In dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride may be used at temperatures up to 550°C. Resistant to dry fluorine.
  • Food and Organic Materials: Non-reactive with organic compounds, making it ideal for food processing and pharmaceutical equipment where product purity must be maintained.
  • High Temperature Water: Excellent corrosion resistance in high-temperature water and steam environments up to 315°C.
  • Limitations: Not suitable for oxidizing salt solutions, nitric acid, or oxidizing acid environments where rapid attack may occur. In oxidizing salt solutions severe attack will occur.
  • Bimetallic Corrosion: Can be safely connected to stainless steels, titanium alloys, and copper alloys with appropriate precautions. Avoid direct contact with aluminum, zinc, and carbon steel without proper insulation.
