RAYCHIN LIMITED is a leading manufacturer of Monel Washers – precision-engineered washers produced from nickel-copper alloys, delivering exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and reliable performance in the most demanding industrial environments. Washers are critical components for load distribution, spring preload, locking, sealing, and vibration damping in bolted joints exposed to corrosive media. Monel alloys, among the first nickel-based alloys developed commercially, maintain a single solid-solution phase (or precipitation-hardened structure in K-500) that resists attack from a range of corrosive media that would damage both carbon steel and stainless steel. Our portfolio includes all standard and custom configurations manufactured to NAS, AN, MS, ANSI, ASTM, ASME, SAE, API, NACE, ISO, DIN and KS standards, including ASME B18.21.1 (lock washers), ASME B18.22.1 (flat washers), ISO 7089/7090 (metric flat washers), DIN 125, DIN 127, and military specifications such as MS15795, MS35338, and NAS620. Whether you require Monel 400 flat washers for marine seawater systems, Monel K-500 spring washers for high-strength oil & gas downhole tools, or custom nickel-copper washers for chemical processing, RAYCHIN delivers precision, quality, and full traceability. All mechanical properties are presented in MPa and ksi (kilopound per square inch).
Monel flat washers (plain washers) provide a smooth bearing surface, distribute clamp load evenly, and prevent galling in bolted joints exposed to corrosive media. Manufactured to ASME B18.22.1 (inch series) and ISO 7089 / ISO 7090 (metric series). Available in narrow, regular, and wide series. Precision stamped or machined from cold-rolled Monel strip or bar stock. Inside diameters from #0 to 2" (M1.6 to M48). Ideal for marine decking, chemical reactor flanges, and offshore platform connections where uniform load distribution and corrosion resistance are critical.
Monel spring washers (conical / Belleville) provide high spring force in limited axial space, ideal for maintaining preload under thermal cycling, vibration, and creep conditions. Manufactured to DIN 6796, ASME B18.21.1, and custom specifications. Available in various load/deflection curves with heat treatment to achieve consistent elastic properties. Used extensively in high-temperature valve assemblies, downhole tools, and subsea connectors where controlled bolt tension must be maintained in corrosive environments.
Monel lock washers (helical, split, toothed) prevent loosening under dynamic loads and vibration in corrosive environments. Helical spring lock washers per ASME B18.21.1; internal/external tooth lock washers per ASME B18.21.1. Excellent for marine deck machinery, offshore drilling equipment, and chemical pump assemblies where vibration-induced loosening must be prevented. Non-magnetic and corrosion resistant with excellent spring properties.
Monel cup washers feature a cup-shaped design with a central hole, facilitating secure fastening and sealing in assemblies where leakage prevention is critical. The cup design enhances sealing effectiveness, preventing fluid bypass in high-pressure piping systems and valve bonnets. Used extensively in chemical processing, marine propulsion, and oil & gas applications requiring both corrosion resistance and reliable sealing.
Our Monel washers meet applicable sections of NAS620 (flat washers), NAS1513 (lock washers), MS15795, MS35338, MS27183, and AN960/AN970. Full compliance with ASTM F467 (nonferrous nuts) and applicable sections of ASTM F468 for material properties. These washers are manufactured and tested to strict U.S. military standards for material and construction, taking the pressure off screws and nuts to protect mounting surfaces in critical defense applications.
Need a special outside diameter, non-standard thickness, proprietary locking features, custom ID/OD ratio, or unique cup geometry? RAYCHIN engineers design and produce custom Monel washers to your exact specifications – any condition (annealed, half hard, age-hardened for K-500), with full material traceability. Prototype to production volumes supported. In-house metallurgical laboratory and failure analysis capabilities ensure optimal performance for your application.
Monel washers are extensively used in marine environments due to their outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion, with corrosion rates below 0.025 mm/year. Applications include hull fasteners, propeller shaft couplings, rudder fittings, seawater piping flanges, underwater instrumentation, and offshore platform connections. Unlike stainless steel, Monel maintains structural integrity even in submerged or splash-zone conditions and resists biofouling. Flat washers distribute clamp loads in critical marine assemblies, while lock washers prevent loosening in wave-induced vibration environments.
Monel washers in chemical processing plants resist aggressive substances such as hydrofluoric acid (HF) in all concentrations up to boiling point – Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation unit piping and equipment. Also excellent for sulfuric acid concentrations above 80%, deaerated hydrochloric acid at low concentrations, caustic solutions, and reducing atmospheres. Used in reactor flanges, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, and valve bonnets. Cup washers provide enhanced sealing in high-pressure chemical equipment.
Monel washers qualified per NACE MR0175/ISO 15156-3 for offshore drilling rigs, subsea production systems, wellhead equipment, and downhole tools. These environments combine high pressure, elevated temperatures, and exposure to corrosive elements like hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), chlorides, and seawater. Monel K-500, with precipitation hardening, provides yield strengths above 690 MPa (100 ksi) for high-strength downhole components while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Spring washers maintain bolt preload in thermal cycling conditions.
Monel washers are used in both aircraft and spacecraft components that must perform in extreme environments – ranging from high-temperature engine zones to the vacuum of outer space. Found in fuel systems, hydraulic lines, structural frames, and landing gear assemblies. Monel retains its strength across a broad temperature range from cryogenic (-184°C) up to 540°C (1000°F), resists oxidation, and performs reliably under thermal cycling. Non-magnetic properties essential for sensitive instrumentation and electronic housings.
Monel washers in nuclear reactor flanges, steam turbine controls, and power plant seawater cooling systems provide reliable load distribution in corrosive and high-temperature environments. Excellent resistance to high-temperature steam, with corrosion rates less than 0.026 mm/year at elevated temperatures. Maintains mechanical properties up to 540°C (1000°F) in oxidizing and reducing conditions. Used for turbine control linkages, sensor mounts, and heat exchanger bolting where corrosion resistance and precise load distribution are critical.
Monel washers in seawater intake systems, desalination plants, and water treatment facilities resist pitting and crevice corrosion in high-velocity saltwater and brine solutions. Used for flange connections on large-bore piping, pump foundations, membrane support structures, and valve actuators where long-term reliability in aggressive water environments is essential. Virtually immune to stress corrosion cracking and biofouling, making them ideal for reverse osmosis and thermal desalination processes.
RAYCHIN LIMITED manufactures Monel washers from vacuum induction melted (VIM) material conforming to the most widely used national and international specifications. All material is traceable to the mill.
Our Monel washers are produced from vacuum induction melted (VIM) material conforming to the following limits per ASTM, AMS, and industry standards.
Metallurgical note: Monel 400 is a solid-solution nickel-copper alloy that is hardened only through cold working. It remains ductile even at subzero temperatures and does not require heat treatment for moderate strength properties. Monel K-500 adds aluminum and titanium to enable precipitation hardening (aging), achieving yield strengths above 690 MPa (100 ksi) while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. Both alloys are essentially non-magnetic (K-500 is non-magnetic; Monel 400 is slightly magnetic at room temperature but loses magnetism at elevated temperatures). The high nickel content provides exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking, while copper enhances resistance to reducing environments such as hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids. Monel washers are manufactured with precision flatness, concentricity, and edge condition for reliable performance in critical bolted joints.
Monel washers are supplied in various conditions per ASTM and AMS specifications. Data represent typical values based on industry standards. ksi values (kilopound per square inch) are provided alongside MPa.
Monel alloys retain useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F) and can operate in moderately elevated environments. The alloys maintain excellent ductility and toughness from cryogenic temperatures down to -184°C (-300°F) continuously, with good oxidation resistance up to 540°C. Monel K-500 is typically limited to 480°C (900°F) to prevent over-aging of the precipitation-hardened structure. In high-temperature steam, corrosion rates are less than 0.026 mm/year. Note that Monel 400 exhibits a "hot brittleness" phenomenon in the 600-800°C range where plasticity decreases significantly, but this does not affect normal service temperatures below 540°C.
Note: Monel excels in applications requiring maximum corrosion resistance at moderate to high temperatures, particularly in reducing environments where stainless steels may fail. Above 480°C, Monel K-500 may experience over-aging and loss of strength.
Monel alloys offer outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making them suitable for the most demanding applications including marine, chemical processing, oil & gas, and power generation.
