Flat Washers (Plain Washers)

Nickel 200 flat washers (plain washers) provide a smooth bearing surface, distribute clamp load evenly, and prevent galling in bolted joints exposed to corrosive media. Manufactured to ASME B18.22.1 (inch series), ISO 7089 / ISO 7090 (metric series), and DIN 125. Available in narrow, regular, and wide series. Precision stamped or machined from cold-rolled nickel 200 strip or bar stock. Inside diameters from #0 to 2" (M1.6 to M48). Ideal for chemical reactor flanges, marine decking, and offshore platform connections where uniform load distribution and corrosion resistance are critical.

Spring Washers (Belleville / Conical)

Nickel 200 spring washers (conical / Belleville) provide high spring force in limited axial space, ideal for maintaining preload under thermal cycling, vibration, and creep conditions. Manufactured to DIN 6796, ASME B18.21.1, and custom specifications. Available in various load/deflection curves with heat treatment to achieve consistent elastic properties. Nickel 200 washers are extensively used in chemical processing plants due to their outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) up to and including molten state. Metallurgical note: Nickel 200 is a commercially pure, solid-solution wrought nickel alloy. It has a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure that remains stable from cryogenic temperatures up to its melting point, providing excellent ductility and fabricability. The alloy exhibits ferromagnetic properties with a Curie temperature of approximately 360°C (680°F). Nickel 200 is suitable for continuous service up to 315°C (600°F); for applications above this temperature, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) is recommended to avoid graphitization and embrittlement.

High‑Temperature Performance of Nickel 200 Washers

Nickel 200 retains useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures up to 315°C (600°F) and is suitable for continuous service in this range. The alloy maintains excellent ductility from cryogenic temperatures (-269°C) up to its maximum service temperature, with no ductile-to-brittle transition. At elevated temperatures, Nickel 200 exhibits good oxidation resistance and retains approximately 50% of its room temperature strength at 315°C. For applications above 315°C, Nickel 201 (low carbon version) is recommended to prevent graphitization and embrittlement. Spring washers can be heat treated to maintain elastic properties up to 315°C.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance of Nickel 200 Washers

Nickel 200 offers outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of aggressive environments, making it suitable for the most demanding applications in chemical processing, marine, and power generation industries.

  • Caustic Alkalis: Outstanding resistance to sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and potassium hydroxide in all concentrations up to and including molten state. Nickel 200 is the preferred material for caustic evaporators and handling equipment.
  • Seawater Corrosion: Excellent resistance to ordinary seawater corrosion, making it ideal for onshore and offshore marine applications, including desalination systems and marine fittings.
  • Neutral and Alkaline Salts: Highly resistant to most neutral and alkaline salt solutions, including chlorides, sulfates, and nitrates.
  • Acid Resistance: Good resistance to de-aerated mineral acids. Most useful under reducing conditions. Resists hydrofluoric acid and organic acids in the absence of oxidizing agents.
  • High Temperature Water: Excellent corrosion resistance in high-temperature water and steam environments up to 315°C.
  • Dry Gases: Resistant to dry chlorine, fluorine, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride up to moderately elevated temperatures (550°C).
  • Food and Organic Materials: Non-reactive with organic compounds, making it ideal for food processing and pharmaceutical equipment where product purity must be maintained.
  • Atmospheric Corrosion: Corrosion rate outdoors is low, though sulphurous atmospheres are the most corrosive. Marine atmospheres are little more corrosive than suburban or rural atmospheres.
  • Limitations: Not suitable for oxidizing salt solutions, nitric acid, or oxidizing acid environments where rapid attack may occur.
  • Bimetallic Corrosion: Can be safely connected to stainless steels, titanium alloys, and copper alloys with appropriate precautions. Avoid direct contact with aluminum, zinc, and carbon steel without proper insulation.
