Monel fasteners, like Monel 400 and K500, are made from a nickel-copper alloy and exhibit high strength, toughness and good corrosion resistance over a wide temperature range from cryogenic up to 1000°F. An outstanding characteristic of Monel fasteners is that they offer exceptional resistance to hydrofluoric acid, a particularly tough acid to deal with, in all concentrations up to the boiling point. For hydrofluoric acid applications Monel fasteners are perhaps the most resistant of all commonly used specialty alloys.
RAYCHIN LIMITED is a leading manufacturer of Monel Fasteners – precision fasteners engineered for the most demanding applications where exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and reliability are critical. Our comprehensive range includes Monel bolts (hex head, heavy hex, socket head), Monel nuts (hex, heavy hex, jam, lock), Monel screws (socket cap, flat head, button head), Monel washers (flat, lock, spring), Monel stud bolts (double-end, fully threaded), and Monel threaded rods. Manufactured from premium nickel‑copper alloys – Monel 400 (UNS N04400) and precipitation-hardenable Monel K500 (UNS N05500) – these fasteners deliver outstanding resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkalis, with Monel K500 providing yield strengths exceeding 690 MPa (100 ksi) through age hardening. Our portfolio includes all standard and custom configurations manufactured to NAS, AN, MS, ANSI, ASTM, ASME, SAE, API, NACE, ISO, DIN and KS standards. Critical Applications of Monel Fasteners
Marine & Offshore
Monel 400 fasteners are the standard choice for seawater applications, including propeller shafts, pump components, valve stems, and subsea control modules. Corrosion rates below 0.025 mm/year in seawater. Used extensively in shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and desalination plants. Outlasts stainless steel 3-5x in marine environments.
Oil & Gas / Sour Service
Monel K500 fasteners qualified per NACE MR0175 for wellhead equipment, valve bonnets, subsea actuators, and BOP assemblies. Resist sulfide stress cracking (SSC) and pitting in H₂S/CO₂ environments. Monel K500 provides yield strengths up to 790 MPa (115 ksi) in age-hardened condition, ideal for high-pressure applications.
Chemical Processing
Monel fasteners resist hydrofluoric acid (HF) – Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation units. Also excellent for sulfuric acid (>80%), deaerated hydrochloric acid (low concentrations), phosphoric acid, and alkalis (caustic soda, potash). Used in reactor agitators, pump shafts, and valve assemblies.
Power Generation
Monel fasteners in feedwater heaters, steam turbine components, and nuclear reactor internals. Resist high-purity water corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. Monel 400 offers excellent performance in both fossil and nuclear power plants. Maximum service temperature up to 480°C.
Aerospace & Defense
Monel K500 fasteners used in aircraft engines, rocket motor casings, and military hardware. Non-magnetic and spark-resistant properties make them ideal for ordnance applications. Maintain strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures down to -200°C.
Pulp & Paper / Salt Production
Monel fasteners used in digesters, liquor heaters, and salt evaporators. Resist chloride-induced corrosion in bleach plants and brine handling systems. Doctor blades and scrapers in pulp processing often made from Monel K500.

Metallurgical note: Monel 400 is a solid-solution strengthened alloy with excellent corrosion resistance across a wide range of media. Monel K500 adds aluminum and titanium to enable precipitation hardening (aging), achieving yield strengths exceeding 690 MPa (100 ksi) while maintaining the same corrosion resistance as Monel 400. Both alloys are non-magnetic to cryogenic temperatures and exhibit low permeability.
Monel fasteners are supplied in solution annealed (Monel 400) or age‑hardened (Monel K500) condition per specification. Data represent typical values based on ASTM, ASME, and industry standards. ksi values (kilopound per square inch) are provided alongside MPa.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance of Monel Fasteners
Monel alloys are renowned for their outstanding resistance to a wide range of corrosive media, particularly in marine and acidic environments.
Seawater: Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in both stagnant and flowing seawater. Corrosion rates <0.025 mm/year. Ideal for propeller shafts, pump components, and marine fasteners.
Hydrofluoric Acid (HF): Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation units in refineries. Outstanding resistance to anhydrous HF and hydrofluoric acid at all concentrations up to boiling point.
Sulfuric Acid: Good resistance at concentrations above 80% and temperatures up to 100°C. Not recommended for dilute sulfuric acid.
Hydrochloric Acid: Suitable for deaerated HCl at low concentrations. Aerated conditions accelerate attack.
Phosphoric Acid: Excellent resistance, used extensively in fertilizer production.
Alkalis: Outstanding resistance to caustic soda and potash at all concentrations and temperatures up to boiling.
Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking: Monel alloys are immune to chloride SCC, unlike austenitic stainless steels.
Non-Magnetic: Both Monel 400 and K500 are non-magnetic to -150°C and have low permeability.
We offer surface finishes: passivation (ASTM A967), silver plating (AMS 2410 for anti‑seize), PTFE coating, electropolish. Full traceability and destructive/non‑destructive testing available (UT, MPI, PMI). Cleanroom packaging available for semiconductor and medical applications.
