Exceptional Corrosion Resistance of Monel Shoulder Bolts
- Seawater: Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Corrosion rates <0.025 mm/year. Ideal for propeller shafts, pump components, and marine shoulder bolts.
- Hydrofluoric Acid (HF): Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation units. Outstanding resistance to anhydrous HF and hydrofluoric acid at all concentrations up to boiling point.
- Sulfuric Acid: Good resistance at concentrations above 80% and temperatures up to 100°C.
- Alkalis: Outstanding resistance to caustic soda and potash at all concentrations and temperatures up to boiling.
- Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking: Monel alloys are immune to chloride SCC, unlike austenitic stainless steels.
- Non‑Magnetic: Both Monel 400 and K500 are non‑magnetic to -150°C and have low permeability.
