Deep Dive: Hastelloy C276 vs C22 – Making the Right Choice

Two of our most requested grades, Hastelloy C276 and Hastelloy C22, share many characteristics but differ in their corrosion sweet spots. C276 contains higher molybdenum and tungsten, delivering outstanding performance in reducing acids and chloride-rich environments. C22, with its elevated chromium content (≥20%), excels in oxidizing acids such as nitric acid and in mixed oxidizer-chloride streams. RAYCHIN's metallurgists routinely assist clients in selecting between them based on specific process parameters—reducing costly trial-and-error.

B2 vs C276: When Reducing Conditions Dominate

For pure reducing environments like hot hydrochloric or sulfuric acid without oxidizing contaminants, Hastelloy B2 fasteners outperform C276. However, C276 offers greater versatility because of its resistance to both oxidizing and reducing media.
