Nitronic Nuts – Comprehensive Product Range

Hex Nuts

Nitronic hex nuts are precision manufactured fasteners with internal threads designed to mate with bolts and studs in high-strength, corrosive environments. Available in inch series per ASME B18.2.2 and metric series per ISO 4032 / DIN 934. Configurations include thin hex, heavy hex, and jam nuts. Diameters from M3 to M48 (#0 to 2"). Nitronic 60's exceptional galling resistance prevents thread seizing during installation and removal, while Nitronic 50 provides enhanced corrosion resistance for marine and chemical applications.

Nitronic 60 Nuts

Nitronic 60 nuts are produced from UNS S21800 alloy, offering exceptional galling and wear resistance combined with high strength. The alloy's high manganese (7-9%) and silicon (3.5-4.5%) content provides superior resistance to metal-to-metal galling, making it ideal for nuts requiring frequent disassembly or sliding contact. Yield strength is approximately twice that of 304 and 316 stainless steels, with annealed yield strength of 380 MPa minimum. Widely used in aerospace fasteners, valve assemblies, and applications where thread galling must be prevented.

Nitronic 50 Nuts

Nitronic 50 nuts are manufactured from UNS S20910 (XM-19) alloy, providing enhanced corrosion resistance superior to 316 stainless steel with PREN of 34 (compared to 25 for 316L) combined with high mechanical strength. This nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel offers approximately twice the yield strength of 316 stainless steel while maintaining excellent toughness down to cryogenic temperatures. Listed in NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 for sour service applications. Used in marine environments, chemical processing equipment, and oil & gas applications requiring both strength and exceptional corrosion resistance.

Heavy Hex & Jam Nuts

Nitronic heavy hex nuts provide increased bearing surface area for high-load applications in power generation and heavy industrial equipment. Nitronic jam nuts (thin hex nuts) are used for locking applications where space is limited. Available in all Nitronic grades with full traceability and material certification. Heavy hex configurations per ASME B18.2.2 and API 6A specifications for high-pressure flange connections.

Our Nitronic nuts meet applicable sections of NAS1291 (self-locking nuts), MS21042, MS17825, and AN standard equivalents. Power Generation

Cryogenic Applications

Nitronic nuts retain excellent impact toughness at cryogenic temperatures, with Nitronic 50 qualified for service down to -269°C (-452°F). Metallurgical note: Nitronic alloys are nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steels that achieve high strength through nitrogen solid solution strengthening rather than precipitation hardening. Nitronic 60 contains high manganese (7-9%) and silicon (3.5-4.5%) additions that provide exceptional galling and wear resistance by promoting the formation of deformation-induced martensite and reducing friction coefficients. The alloy exhibits approximately twice the yield strength of 304 and 316 stainless steels while maintaining excellent ductility. Nitronic 50 combines high nitrogen content with molybdenum and niobium additions to achieve corrosion resistance superior to 316 stainless steel, with PREN of 34 (compared to 25 for 316L). Both alloys retain their austenitic structure and remain non-magnetic (permeability <1.02) even after severe cold working. Nitronic 60 is widely recognized as one of the most galling-resistant materials available, making it the preferred choice for nuts subject to frequent disassembly, sliding contact, or high-vibration environments. The alloy's unique combination of high manganese and silicon content promotes the formation of deformation-induced martensite during sliding contact, which reduces friction coefficients and prevents adhesive wear. Galling resistance tests show that Nitronic 60 exhibits threshold galling stresses approximately four times higher than 316 stainless steel. Nitronic 50 offers enhanced corrosion resistance superior to 316 stainless steel with PREN of 34, making it suitable for sour service applications per NACE MR0175.
