Alloy 330 Fasteners

Alloy 330 Lock Nuts

Alloy 330 Lock Nuts are specifically designed for high temperature furnace applications such as vacuum furnaces, heat treating and brazing applications. The most prized trait of alloy 330 is its ability perform under cyclic conditions of temperature extremes from heating and cooling; as well as in alternate carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres. An austenitic, nickel-chromium-iron-silicon alloy, 330 fasteners also offer industry a low coefficient of expansion, excellent ductility, and high strength.

Key Benefits of Alloy 330 Lock Nuts

Exceptional High-Temperature Strength

Alloy 330 maintains useful mechanical properties up to 1150°C (2100°F). All-metal lock nuts provide reliable prevailing torque at these extreme temperatures. At 800°C, tensile strength remains at 150-200 MPa, significantly higher than standard stainless steels.

Vibration Resistance

All-metal and nylon insert designs provide reliable prevailing torque to prevent loosening under vibration, thermal cycling, and dynamic loads. Meets IFI 100/107 and DIN torque requirements for locking fasteners.

Superior Carburization & Oxidation Resistance

Silicon addition (0.75-1.5%) enhances resistance to carburizing and oxidizing atmospheres up to 1150°C. Chromium forms a protective Cr₂O₃ scale, while silicon contributes to a complex silicate layer that provides exceptional protection in aggressive furnace environments.

Thermal Cycling Resistance

Stable austenitic structure at all temperatures provides excellent resistance to thermal shock and thermal fatigue. Locking torque remains consistent through repeated thermal cycles.

Chloride SCC Immunity

With 34-37% nickel content, Alloy 330 offers practical immunity to chloride stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for applications where both high temperature and chlorides are present.

Temperature Versatility

All-metal lock nuts serviceable up to 1150°C; nylon insert lock nuts ideal for repeated use up to 120°C. Both maintain corrosion resistance across their respective temperature ranges.

Lock Nut Design & Performance Characteristics

All-Metal Lock Nut Design

All-metal lock nuts achieve prevailing torque through controlled deformation of the threads, typically in the top portion of the nut. Common designs include:

  • Elliptical Offset: The top threads are formed into an elliptical shape, creating interference with the mating bolt threads.
  • Thread Deflection: Selected threads are precisely displaced to create frictional resistance.
  • Slot & Collar: Slots cut into the nut with a compressed collar that exerts force on the bolt threads.

Advantages: Temperature capability to 1150°C, reusable, no material compatibility concerns. Meets performance requirements of DIN 980 and IFI 100/107.

Nylon Insert Lock Nut Design

Nylon insert lock nuts feature a non-metallic locking ring (typically nylon 6/6) crimped into the nut's top. When engaged with the mating bolt, the nylon deforms elastically, creating prevailing torque through friction.

  • Temperature Limit: Continuous service to 120°C (250°F).
  • Reusability: 5-15 cycles typical depending on specification.
  • Sealing: Nylon ring provides additional sealing against leakage along thread path.

Meets performance requirements of DIN 985, DIN 982, ISO 7040, and IFI 100/107 Grade B.

Prevailing Torque Requirements

Our Alloy 330 lock nuts meet or exceed the following prevailing torque specifications:
